Dear Parents, Friends and Students of Our Lady of Lourdes
Wellness Week: I’m sure all would agree that a public holiday was the perfect start to Wellness Week. I still can’t believe that we are now over halfway through the term! Wellness Week entails no meetings, no homework and some additional fun activities planned at school. I hope many families can spend some quality family time together this week.
Year 6 Badge Presentation: I had the pleasure of being at the Year 6 Ministry and Faction Captain badge presentation on Friday 24 February. The event coincided with our first Prayer Assembly for 2023, that was also led by our Year 6 students, on the theme of Lent. I reiterated to the Year 6 cohort, that I was extremely impressed with their leadership speeches and that everyone in Year 6 is a leader at OLOL, no matter what badge they wear. Congratulations to those students who were voted into their respective roles by their peers and to all our Year 6 Ministry Leaders.
NAPLAN: In a change to previous years, NAPLAN will now take place during Term 1 to allow schools to receive student data earlier for analysis. Our Year 3 and Year 5 students will take part in the national tests comprising of Writing, Reading, Language Conventions (spelling & grammar) and Numeracy. NAPLAN commences next Wednesday 15 March, and we wish students in these grade levels all the best for the testing period.
Parent Feedback Results: Thank you to the parents who submitted feedback on our beginning of the year events – Parent Information Evening & Welcome Picnic. All feedback is much appreciated and is an important factor when building school culture. An overwhelming majority of families would like to see the two events amalgamated in the future. This will definitely be considered when planning begins for 2024.
Holy Communion Workshop: A reminder for parents who have a child making their First Holy Communion in 2023, that the Sacramental Family Workshop will be held in the School Hall on Tuesday 21 March. The student making the Sacrament and at least one parent must attend the workshop as part of the preparation process. The workshop will commence at 5:45pm.
Complaints & Disputes: Our Lady of Lourdes School is committed to handling disputes and complaints effectively and efficiently. Our school supports the rights of parents/guardians, students and staff to have their complaints taken seriously, and responded to promptly and thoroughly. Our complaints management system allows us to effectively capture, manage and report on complaints and we commit to making our complaints management procedures accessible and transparent.
If you would like to know more about this procedure, the OLOL Dispute & Complaint Resolution Procedure document is located on our school website following this link https://ololnoll.wa.edu.au/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/OLOL-Dispute-and-Complaint-Resolution-Procedures.pdf
Family Mass: The first Family Mass for 2023 is coming up on Sunday 12 March. Instead of being for specific classes, the Family Mass will now be open to all OLOL students who would like to attend and take a leading part in the celebration. Please contact Admin if your child would like to take part.
Kindergarten Enrolment: In very promising signs for our school, we have again reached capacity in our Pre-Kindy and Kindergarten classes in 2023. As a result, our Kindergarten class for 2024 is filling up very quickly with limited spaces available. The OLOL Enrolment Procedure states that siblings of current students are given priority, however, application forms must be submitted, or vacancies will be filled. Moving forward, I would strongly encourage current families to submit enrolment forms as early as possible, especially if your intention is to not attend Pre Kindy. This will avoid the disappointment of missing out and allows the school to plan for the number of vacancies needed to be filled. Your assistance with this is greatly appreciated.
MJR – Spirit of Jesus ‘Shout Outs’: Here are a few ‘SOJ Shouts Outs’ from around the community this past fortnight:
- Lucky (Year 5) instantly befriending Angelo (new student in Year 5), making him feel welcomed at OLOL. Lucky also gave a younger student his hat to borrow so they could play outside for lunch
- Sacred Heart Primary School staff (Thornlie) welcoming OLOL staff last Friday for our Talk for Writing PD
- Mrs Miranda cooking up a beautiful lunch for staff when arriving back to school on Friday
- The many students who wished me a wonderful long weekend before heading home last Thursday
God Bless and stay classy OLOL

Parking
We would appreciate families with older children to utilise the Kiss and Drive, freeing up parking spaces for the Kindy and Pre Primary families on Marda Way.
Please ensure you are not parking in ‘No Standing’ zones. They are clearly marked around the school, and failure to do so may lead to a fine from the ranger.
Your assistance with this is greatly appreciated.
