Dear Parents, Friends and Students of Our Lady of Lourdes
Sacrament of Confirmation: Our Confirmation Candidates from Year 6 are coming closer to the culmination of their journey when they will receive this special Sacrament at Mass on Sunday 17 September. The Candidates will be confirmed by The Very Rev Peter Whitely Vicar General and he will be assisted by our incoming parish priest Fr Francis Kot. I am very much looking forward to this special celebration. Please keep the Candidates, their families and teachers in your prayers.
Stage 7 Opening: In the Week 6 newsletter, I mentioned that we are having the official opening for the Stage 7 capital development project that concluded at the end of the 2021 school year. All families are invited to attend this event on Tuesday 19 September at 9am in the School Hall. Morning tea will follow the formal proceedings. You may have seen copies of the invitation placed around the school or a digital version is located in the newsletter. Please use the QR code on the invitation to RSVP to the event.
Father’s Day: It was fabulous to see so many dads and father figures at school nice an early last Friday to celebrate our Father’s Day Breakfast. Thank you to the amazing OLOL staff for making sure the event was a success. I also appreciated the many dads and grandfathers who came and visited me at the BBQ to thank the school for all that we do – ‘Spirit of Jesus!’ Congratulations to the Father’s Day raffle winners and thank you to our P&F for organising the tickets and prizes. A true TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) effort.
Interschool Cross Country: After making sure their tummies were full from breakfast last Friday, our Interschool Cross Country Team headed to Yokine Reserve to compete against other long distance runners from surrounding schools. We had some tremendous individual results with Ava bringing home the gold in the Year 5 race, Jonah coming in second in the Year 6 event and Anthony O finishing fourth in the Year 3 race . Overall, OLOL finished 3rd! Congratulations to the team.
Mercy Day: On Wednesday 20 September, we will be celebrating Mercy Day. This special day connects the school community to the history of Our Lady of Lourdes School and the first teachers to grace our classrooms in 1958, the Sisters of Mercy. The day begins with Mass at 9am and then a mini fete at 10:35am. The students will conclude the day with ‘OLOL’s Got Talent’. Parents are most welcome to join us for all the festivities. Students may come to school in free dress for a gold coin donation. All money raised will go to Mercy Works Ltd. Please keep an eye out for communication regarding the event.
MJR – Spirit of Jesus ‘Shout Outs’: Here are a few ‘SOJ Shouts Outs’ from around the community this past fortnight:
- Mrs Bratanov (mother of Oliver & Riley) and Steven (Year 6) giving their time and musical talent to accompany our performing arts Choral Choir
- Darryl Windsor (Principal of Notre Dame Catholic Primary School) for handcrafting a Mercy Cross and gifting it to our school
- Ella (Kindy) always treating her classmates with kindness and assisting them in PE lessons
- Mrs C’s creative ideas to celebrate our outstanding team of EAs to show our appreciation of all that they do for the students at our school
God Bless and stay classy OLOL

Performing Arts Festival - Lourdes Choir
This year, a number of students from Years 3 to 6 participated in the Choral Singing, which was part of the Performing Arts Festival. The performance was held at the Vasto Club in Balcatta. The Lourdes Choir sang two songs, ’A Million Dreams’ from the movie ‘The Greatest Showman’ and a traditional Italian children’s song titled ‘Ci Vuole Un Fiore’. The students rehearsed over a number of months and can be very proud of their achievement.
A special mention must go out to Mrs Bratanova (Riley Yr 3 and Oliver Yr 2’s Mum), who volunteered her music expertise to assist in preparing the students. I thank her from the bottom of my heart for her commitment and passion in regards to this project.
A big thank you to the students for all their hard work. Together we became ‘One Voice’, and this is what a choir must do.
Well done everyone!
Mrs Valli

St Vincent de Paul Clothing Bin
We have a St Vincent de Paul clothing bin which is located near the Flinders St gate on the oval side of the school. You are able to donate all your unwanted good quality clothing, manchester, books, kitchenware (no glass items) and childrens’ toys that you no longer needed. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the front office.
Battery Recycling
Recycling batteries is good for the environment. It keeps them out of landfill, where heavy metals may leak into the ground when the battery casing corrodes, causing soil and water pollution. If batteries are incinerated with household waste, the heavy metals in them may cause air pollution.
Remember that you can recycle your household batteries at school. Please deposit batteries in the specially provided container in the front office.
We can all play our part to reduce landfill and help save the planet.
