Dear Parents, Friends and Students of Our Lady of Lourdes

Welcome Back to an Action-Packed Term: Welcome back everyone to Semester Two! I hope you all had a wonderful break. An extra special welcome to Vincey (Year 2), Manit (Year 3) and to Mr Brian Dobbie (Science & Year 6 Teacher) who have joined the OLOL community. Term 3 is set to be action packed with events scheduled such as Open Night, Year 6 Camp, Confirmation, Father’s Day Breakfast and the official opening of our Capital Development Project – more information to come. Please keep checking the school calendar located on our school website so you don’t miss any of these exciting events.

Parish Priest Announcement: On Sunday morning it was announced by Fr George that our new Parish Priest at OLOL will be Fr Francis Kot SDS. Fr Francis is currently Parish Priest at St Simon Peter Parish, Ocean Reef where he has spent the last nine years. I have already met with Fr Francis and he is very much looking forward to the change and beginning his ministry with us towards the end of September/start of October. We look forward to welcoming Fr Francis later this term.

The Religious Education Assessment: At the request of the Western Australian Bishops, Year 3, Year 5 and Year 9 students in Catholic schools across Western Australia will take part in The Religious Education Assessment (formally known as the BRLA). The assessment will be accessible to students only online.

Students enrolled in Year 3 and Year 5 at OLOL who are following a regular classroom program are expected to participate.

The schedule is as follows:

Year 3 and 5 students will be completing the assessment on Wednesday 2nd August.

School Climate Survey: Every two years, our school completes a survey to gather data on our school’s climate. The survey is open to staff, parents and students from selected grade levels. The survey will be available from Monday 31 July and will close on Friday 11 August. I would appreciate as many people as possible to complete the survey to gain a wide source of comparable data. The link for the survey will be sent to you directly. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Catholic Performing Arts: Term 3 is always a celebration with the Performing Arts Festival taking place. Our very own OLOL students have already taken to the stage/lectern showcasing their talents in areas such as Instrumental Solos and Bible Reading. Our Liturgical Dance and Choral Singing groups are still to perform in the coming weeks. Congratulations to the students on their performances and thank you to the teachers coordinating.

OLOL P&F Meeting: Our Term 3 OLOL P&F Meeting is coming up next Wednesday 2 August at 5:30pm. This is a very important catch up, with our famous Open Night being the major agenda item to discuss. Remember, all parents are welcome to attend and join our Executive and Class Contact Representatives at the meeting following our MJR mantra of TEAM – Together Everyone Achieves More. The meeting will be held in the Staffroom.

OLOL Open Night: Remember to lock in Wednesday 9 August for the OLOL Open Night. Classrooms will be open from 5:30pm to 7:30pm for families to come and see the fantastic learning that has been occurring in your child’s classroom. Make sure to grab something delicious to eat before you head home organised by our fabulous P&F. OLOL Open Night is a highlight event on the annual calendar and never disappoints, so please make sure to come along and see that fabulous work, classrooms and performances that the students and teachers are incredibly proud of.

MJR – Spirit of Jesus ‘Shout Outs’: Here are a few ‘SOJ Shouts Outs’ from around the community this past fortnight:

  • Ms Fusco spending time during her holidays to give our indigenous poles near the Flinders Street gate a much needed ‘face lift’. Make sure to check them out.
  • Mrs Narra assisting a former OLOL student transition to a new school during Week One
  • Munachim (Kindy) reaching for Mrs Vivante’s hand while walking to library as he was already holding Mrs Isherwood’s hand and obviously didn’t want Mrs Vivante to feel left out
  • The many “Welcome back” and “How were your holidays” comments I received during the first couple of days back at school from our students and their families

God Bless and stay classy OLOL

Principal

Please bring them to your class teacher.

Thank you

St Vincent de Paul Clothing Bin

We have a St Vincent de Paul clothing bin which is located near the Flinders St gate on the oval side of the school. You are able to donate all your unwanted good quality clothing, manchester, books, kitchenware (no glass items) and childrens’ toys that you no longer needed. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the front office.

Battery Recycling

Recycling batteries is good for the environment. It keeps them out of landfill, where heavy metals may leak into the ground when the battery casing corrodes, causing soil and water pollution. If batteries are incinerated with household waste, the heavy metals in them may cause air pollution.
Remember that you can recycle your household batteries at school. Please deposit batteries in the specially provided container in the front office.

We can all play our part to reduce landfill and help save the planet.
