Dear Parents, Friends and Students of Our Lady of Lourdes

Open Night Success: I know I say it year after year, however, I again want to reiterate the fabulous success which is Open Night at OLOL. I always try and catch new families to our school during the evening to get their thoughts and feedback and as always, I was met with resounding accolades. A further feature of this year’s event was the performances in the undercover area. A big thank you to the South Sudanese Choir for opening the showcase and congratulations to the individual and class performances, demonstrating the amazing talents we have here at OLOL. I would also like to express my appreciation to the OLOL P&F and the many parent volunteers that assisted throughout the day/evening.

Year 6 Camp: I made the drive down to Forest Edge last Friday to spend some time with our Year 6 students as they wrapped up their final activities at Camp. Thank you again to the staff members who gave up their own personal time to accompany the students and to the Year 6 students themselves for making OLOL proud of the way you behaved and gave everything a go while at Camp. Well done everyone!

Reconciliation Workshop: A reminder for families with children making the Sacrament of First Reconciliation this year that the family workshop is next Tuesday 29 August at 5:45pm in the School Hall.

Staffing News: Mrs Valli will be taking some well-deserved long service leave from Week 7 until the end of the term. We wish her a restful time away. We are very fortunate to have Ms Rosa Speranza join us for the last four weeks to teach Italian to Year 1-6. Mrs Vivante will continue teaching the Italian program with Pre Primary in Mrs Valli’s absence.

Book Week: It is Book Week for 2023, with this year’s theme being Read, Grow, Inspire. Today, children and staff arrived at school dressed as a favourite book character or reflecting this year’s Book Week theme. All  students and staff enjoyed showing off their costumes during this morning’s parade in the Hall.

Stage 7 Official School Opening: After multiple attempts and unforeseen variables like a change of Government and COVID, we finally get to officially open our Stage 7 capital development project that concluded at the end of the 2021 school year. The Executive Director of Catholic Education WA – Dr Debra Sayce will be attending to conduct the official opening and The Very Rev Fr Vincent Glynn – Episcopal Vicar for Education and Faith Formation, will bless our new spaces. There will also be a host of distinguished guests attending as well. All families are invited to attend this special event. Please find the invitation in the newsletter and use the QR code to RSVP to the event.

Father’s Day Breakfast: A call to our OLOL father figures to come along to our annual Father’s Day Breakfast on Friday 1 September. You should receive a text message today with the event information. Please follow the instructions to respond to the text to give us an indication of how many people will be attending so we can cater accordingly. Breakfast will be served from 7:30am.

Interschool Cross Country: After a very successful Faction Cross Country, our top long-distance runners from Year 3 – 6 will compete at the Interschool Cross Country on Friday 1 September at Yokine Reserve. Races commence at 12:50pm and I hope many parents will be able to attend and cheer on competitors from our school. Good luck to the team!

MJR – Spirit of Jesus ‘Shout Outs’: Here are a few ‘SOJ Shouts Outs’ from around the community this past fortnight:

  • Feedback from a relief teacher when they were thanked for working at OLOL – “Thank you so much for having me. What a wonderful school. The staff are beautiful and the kids are great. I can’t wait to come back”.
  • Mr Dobbie, Mrs Vivante, Ms Fusco & Mrs Giorgio giving up their personal time to accompany our Year 6 students on Camp.
  • The Year Five students for seamlessly jumping into leadership roles vacated by our Year Six students on Camp. Leaders in the making!
  • The Year Six students for being outstanding representatives of OLOL while on Camp.

God Bless and stay classy OLOL

2024 3YO Pre Kindy and 2025 Kindy Enrolments

Parents,If you are still wanting to complete an enrolment form, please do so as soon as possible. We have started interviewing families for both 2024 and 2025 classes.

If you have a child born between the following dates: 1st July 2020 – 30th June 2021, please ensure that you have completed an enrolment form. You can download the enrolment document by visiting our Website https://ololnoll.wa.edu.au/enrol/ or see Mrs Harris in the office.

Our Community

Please keep in your prayers all members of our community who are sick or who have relatives and friends who are ill at this time. We especially ask that you keep them in your closest thoughts and prayers.

Ring Pulls

We are still collecting the ring pulls from soft drink cans. These are donated to Brother Ollie, who uses them to assist in making wheelchairs for children around the world affected by disease and landmines.

Please bring them to your class teacher.

Thank you

St Vincent de Paul Clothing Bin

We have a St Vincent de Paul clothing bin which is located near the Flinders St gate on the oval side of the school. You are able to donate all your unwanted good quality clothing, manchester, books, kitchenware (no glass items) and childrens’ toys that you no longer needed. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the front office.

Battery Recycling

Recycling batteries is good for the environment. It keeps them out of landfill, where heavy metals may leak into the ground when the battery casing corrodes, causing soil and water pollution. If batteries are incinerated with household waste, the heavy metals in them may cause air pollution.
Remember that you can recycle your household batteries at school. Please deposit batteries in the specially provided container in the front office.

We can all play our part to reduce landfill and help save the planet.
