Dear Parents, Friends and Students of Our Lady of Lourdes

Welcome Back: If I have not already seen you around school, welcome back to Term 4. I would also like to officially welcome our new Parish Priest Fr Francis who has taken up his ministry here at OLOL and Trev Miricho who has started in our Year 5 class.

Term Four is always extremely busy so please make sure to keep up to date with all communication to know what exciting things are happening in our school community, over the course of the nine weeks.

Sacrament of Reconciliation: Many of our Year 3 students are currently preparing to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Wednesday 25 October. Please keep these students in your prayers as they approach this very important step in their personal faith journey.

New Carpets: The next time you are at school, make sure to pop into the Year 1-6 classrooms and check out our new carpets that were laid during the school holidays. They look fabulous, giving our classrooms a fresh and modern look.

OLOL P&F Meeting: The final OLOL P&F Meeting is being held this evening at 5:30pm. A reminder that all parents are welcome to attend and the meeting agenda is located on our school website. We have had wonderful attendance at our meetings this year, which has been so positive to see parents from all grade levels wanting to contribute to building relationships within our school community.

Faction Athletics Carnival: This Friday 20 October is shaping up to be a fantastic day for our Faction Athletics Carnival. Mrs Goode has been busily preparing all students behind the scenes for them to showcase their amazing skills and talents on carnival day. Year 3-6 students competed in their field events today and now we head to Woodchester Oval as a school community on Friday. The carnival is always a well-attended event with the MJR spirit alive amongst the students, families and friends. I look forward to seeing many of you there on the day cheering on our students.

Staffing News: Miss Geiles has informed me that she will not be continuing in her teaching role next year. I want to thank Miss Geiles for her dedication teaching our Year 5 class and she will be missed by the school community. I am very pleased to announce that Miss Linh Nguyen will be joining our teaching team at OLOL in 2024. Linh has recently graduated and is no stranger to OLOL completing her teaching prac with us in 2021. Linh is very excited to be returning to OLOL next year.

In other news, Mrs Magri will be taking long service leave for the duration of Term One, 2024. We have advertised to fill this position and I will inform the community of the successful applicant when the process concludes.

MJR – Spirit of Jesus ‘Shout Outs’: Here are a few ‘SOJ Shouts Outs’ from around the community this past fortnight:

  • Esther & Sunam (Year 4) for visiting Miss Welch’s classroom to wish her a happy birthday
  • Our incredibly talented performing arts participants showcasing their performances to the school last Friday
  • The Year 3 students and their families who made the journey out to Chittering to show their support to Miss Welch on her Wedding Day
  • Parents that came to not only watch and support but also assist at the ‘Throws & Jumps’ today

God Bless and stay classy OLOL

Multilingual Library

Our Lady of Lourdes was successful in receiving a funding grant from Catholic Education WA to set up a multilingual library. This is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate all the languages spoken in our multicultural community. The money will go towards purchasing multilingual books for classrooms. We would like to ask the community if anyone is interested in selecting books in a particular language or has a request for their childs’ classroom. Please speak to Mrs Quesnel in Kindy or Mrs Vivante if you are interested or have the capacity to be involved in this initiative.

The P & F will be running a Raffle at the carnival on Friday. First prize is a $50 voucher from Rebel Sports. Tickets are a $1 each, so please bring along some small change.

Our Community

Our Deepest Sympathy to Yolan Slater (who helps out in the Canteen) and family on the passing of her husband Graham. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all, during this very sad time.

Our Deepest Sympathy to Teagan Brewer (PP) and family on the passing of her Grandfather. Our thoughts and prayers are with Teagan and her family during this very sad time.

All the very best to Dario Sorbello (Leo’s Dad Yr 1) who is travelling to Queensland, to represent Australia in the Trans Atlantic Indoor Cricket Competition.

Please keep in your prayers all members of our community who are sick or who have relatives and friends who are ill at this time. We especially ask that you keep them in your closest thoughts and prayers.

Ring Pulls

We are still collecting the ring pulls from soft drink cans. These are donated to Brother Ollie, who uses them to assist in making wheelchairs for children around the world affected by disease and landmines.

Please bring them to your class teacher.

Thank you

St Vincent de Paul Clothing Bin

We have a St Vincent de Paul clothing bin which is located near the Flinders St gate on the oval side of the school. You are able to donate all your unwanted good quality clothing, manchester, books, kitchenware (no glass items) and childrens’ toys that you no longer needed. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the front office.

Battery Recycling

Recycling batteries is good for the environment. It keeps them out of landfill, where heavy metals may leak into the ground when the battery casing corrodes, causing soil and water pollution. If batteries are incinerated with household waste, the heavy metals in them may cause air pollution.
Remember that you can recycle your household batteries at school. Please deposit batteries in the specially provided container in the front office.

We can all play our part to reduce landfill and help save the planet.

Community News - Magpie Nesting and Swooping Season

Magpie nesting season runs until November and during this period, magpies and other birds may swoop to protect their young. During this time, extra care should be taken when outside and walking to and from school.

The following is recommended:
* That you wear a wide brimmed hat and sunglasses while outdoors.
* Pay attention to any caution signage in parks.
* Maybe plan alternative routes where necessary.
* Do not approach or provoke magpies.
