IF the Scripture scholars are correct, and the Gospel according to Mark is the earliest of the four Gospels to be written down, then the first recorded words of Jesus in the gospel tradition are these: the time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel (Mark 1:15).
